What was so great about 2010?
If you ask us, 2010 holds plenty of great memories. A new year is always a time of reflection, so the mindsalt crew is recounting our favorites of 2010.
Ashley –

This year Ashley bought a Kindle. In Ashley’s words, “I’ll admit, the Kindle doesn’t look as pretty on my bookshelf as rows of weathered hardcovers, nor is it as glossy and multi-featured as the iPad. But it’s a heck of a lot lighter to carry than the technical tomes and lengthy novels I would otherwise carry in my bag, and it doesn’t strain my eyes like reading on the iPad does. Plus, I can get books delivered wirelessly to my Kindle – instant gratification! I’m slowly building an ebook library to rival my old-school shelves; I’ve loaded my Kindle with a ridiculous number of technical reference books, literary classics, and silly sci-fi novels. Next up – hacking the Kindle and customizing it to fit my exact wants and needs. Because that’s what computer-literate book nerds do.”
Mike -
Last year Mike took a trip with his wife, Elizabeth, to Japan for a wedding. I think the pictures tell the story better than words could…

Brian -
Brian’s travels last year took him to Maine, and he brought back these beautiful photographs -

Kelly -
Sticking with the vacation them, Kelly remembers, “My favorite memory of 2010 is when we went to Dale Hollow Lake for a spur-of-the-moment, dirt-cheap houseboat trip with 2 other families. We packed 15 people (6 adults and 9 children) on a little ole houseboat – the only rental left on July 4th weekend. So you can imagine how it must’ve been, considering they were practically giving it away. We tubed, fished, kayaked, grilled and made s’mores on the “island” we tied to. At night, we were tantalized by a pesky raccoon who stopped at nothing to rummage through our trash. The guys kept watch on the front deck with oozie squirt guns and the kids all piled in behind the glass door to watch the showdown. Memorable moment for sure.”
Here’s a shot of her son and his cousin getting some air on the tube -

Tarah -
Acoording to Tarah, “Normally in any given year I would probably say my favorite memory was my annual trip to Bonnaroo, but last year was a little different because I got married and that was the most amazing day of my life. Part of what made it so amazing was the music that Kevin and I handpicked from our own collection. So, in an attempt to tie together some of my favorite memories from 2010, I will share with you my favorite song from the past year – “Home”, by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. I heard it played live at Bonnaroo, and I danced around in a circle with some of my closest friends as it played at my wedding reception.”
Not the best video, but I think it truly captures the energy from both the crowd and the band as they played live at Bonnaroo -
With 2010 now behind us, we are already discovering what 2011 has in store for us. There are sure to be more trips, more gadgets, and more memories. Happy New Year.
